What we hold, and what we do not.
Short version: your family file never leaves your computer, this website collects nothing, and the only thing we hold about you is what a purchase and your own letters give us.
Who is responsible
Stamtree is the trading name of Michael Damsgaard, a private individual in Denmark. Paddle.com Market Ltd is the merchant of record for every purchase, and your contract of sale is with Paddle. Contact: our mailbox.
We are the controller for the personal data we hold about users of Stamtree and of this website. Paddle are their own controller for the payment data they collect: we never see your card. Their policy is at paddle.com/legal/privacy. Write to the mailbox above for anything to do with your data.
The program
Stamtree stores everything on your own computer: your family, your pictures, your sources, your notes. It sends nothing by itself. The features that use the internet do so only when you ask them to, and each one says what it does. The licence check itself runs on your machine, every time, without a network.
This website
- No accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking.
- No cookies. The site sets none, so there is nothing for you to manage or consent to.
- Nothing is loaded from anyone else. No fonts, no scripts, no images from other companies. Your browser talks to this site and to nothing besides.
- The site is hosted by Simply.com, a Danish company. Like every web server, theirs records the address your browser connects from, so the pages can be served and kept secure. We do not read those records for anything else and we build no profile from them.
- The site is served over HTTPS only; a plain connection is redirected.
What we hold about you
- From a purchase, through Paddle: your name, your e-mail address and a subscription reference. We use them to issue your licence, to renew it each year, and to answer you. That is performance of our agreement with you, and we use them for nothing else.
- If you write to us: your e-mail address and whatever you put in the message. We use it to answer you.
- The web server's own log: the address your browser connects from, held by our host as described above. That is our legitimate interest in serving and protecting the site.
- Nothing from the program. It reports no usage to us, ever.
We send no newsletters, we sell nothing on, and we pass your address to nobody.
Who else sees it
- Paddle, as merchant of record, for the sale, the subscription, the payment, the tax and the invoice. Paddle.com Market Ltd is registered in England and Wales, which is outside the European Economic Area. Paddle are responsible for that data as their own controller and their policy, linked above, says how they safeguard it.
- Simply.com, who host this website in Denmark.
- Authorities, where the law requires it.
- Nobody else. No advertisers, no analytics companies, no data brokers.
How long we keep it
We keep your name, e-mail address and subscription reference for as long as your licence runs, and after that for as long as we are required to keep the record of a sale. When neither reason holds any more, we delete it. Letters are kept while the matter is open and for as long as it is useful to remember what was agreed, and then deleted.
How it is kept
The register of licences we have issued lives on one computer in Denmark, under an account only the operator uses. It is not in a cloud service and it is not shared. This website is served over HTTPS only.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, have it corrected, have it deleted, have our use of it restricted, object to our use of it, ask for a copy to take elsewhere, and withdraw any consent you have given. Write to the mailbox above and we answer within one month.
If you are not satisfied, you can complain to your own data protection authority. In Denmark that is Datatilsynet.
Names on a website Stamtree made
Stamtree can build a family website out of your file. If you are named on such a page, or on a page of ours, and want the name removed, write to the same mailbox. It is read, and a removal request is passed to whoever publishes the page.
